IASTM – short for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is a treatment-technique using tools of stainless steel on soft tissues. The Ttool is an IASTM tool designed to include curves and edges for treatment of all body parts.
It is said that: “We don’t need to change the intervention. We need to change the explanation”. IASTM as a form of treatment has a long history, actually thousands of years. In modern times, it has been put in system. The first explanatory models are now mostly rejected, and today we are more moderate when talking about the effects of IASTM treatment. However, we can, with great certainty, say that if you as a clinician/therapist do soft tissue work, IASTM is a fantastic modality that in many cases gives great results, especially when talking about increased movement. As a therapist, you will spare your hands and fingers when working with the Ttool, and you will be able to create much greater load and stimuli (in a specific area) compared with traditional massage.
IASTM is a modality that should only be one part of a complete treatment plan and should be used together with other treatments / modalities where the goal is a healthy and sensible approach to the individual patient’s problems and with a long term goal of helping the patient with his or hers problems. After several years of experience, we have a solid basis for teaching the techniques and tools used in IASTM. If you would like to learn how to use IASTM, sign up for our educational one day course which, among many subjects, contains:
- A short walk through of the latest evidence based knowledge on muscle and bone injuries and tissue healing.
- Hands-on workshop with our own tool especially design for IASTM, The Ttool. You will be guiding by our competent and experienced course instructor, Dr. Thomas Lauvsnens, MSc (Chiro).
- If you are a therapist that works with soft tissue and rehabilitation this is the course for you. IASTM is a fantastic modality where you in many cases accomplish both pain relief and increased movement in shorter time than normal, and you reduce the workload on your hands.
